CHEIA October 2022 Update

06 October 2022      Nkechi Ijeomah, CHEIA Administrator

Message from the Chair
Although August marks the start of the academic year, I often think that October marks the start of the CHEIA year, with the annual conference behind us, the performance of the last year reviewed, and ready to start afresh, planning for the next year’s CHEIA calendar and the challenges that lie ahead.
Moving from one year into the next puts us into a state of transition and it is from this perspective of change that I would like to comment on the work of my colleagues on the CHEIA executive. As you will see below, the AGM involves the appointment of the four elected positions to the executive. In addition to those elected positions, we also have the power to co-opt willing volunteers to work alongside the elected officers.  With effect from the forthcoming AGM, two elected members, Barry Frankham as Treasurer and Ben Wood as Regional Representative for the North, have indicated that they will not be standing for re-election. I would like to thank Barry and Ben for their enormous contribution to CHEIA over the years and to wish them well as they devote their time to their other passions and interests. If anyone is interested in standing for either of these positions or indeed in the interests of transparency and openness, for any of the other elected posts, please submit your nomination forms using the process outlined below. Contact me beforehand to discuss what the position entails if you think that would be helpful. There are also vacancies for co-opted members – again contact me if you would like to be involved.

CHEIA Conference 2022 – Thank you for joining us
Many thanks to everyone who joined us for our second virtual Conference. Going by the feedback we received, we are pleased that we were able to deliver a great event to all. For everyone who registered, the presentations from the Conference will be available on the CHEIA website and you should be able to access them with your usual login details. We are looking forward to welcoming more of you at our future events.

CHEIA Annual General Meeting
This year’s Annual General Meeting will take place on 3 November 2022, immediately after the Bitesize session. Please plan to stay on for some more minutes. If you wish to join us for the AGM, but not the Bitesize, please let me know by 25 October, and I can forward the link to you. As with previous AGMs, you will get a chance to receive the Chair’s and Treasurer’s reports respectively, and we will be electing the new CHEIA Executive.
We look forward to your usual support for CHEIA.

CHEIA Elections 2022
It is that time of year again when we invite nominations to the CHEIA Executive. We then conduct elections (if necessary) and announce the new Executive at the AGM. The nomination forms are now available on the CHEIA website for the posts of Chair, Treasurer, Regional Representative for the North and Regional Representative for the South. All members (with current subscriptions) can nominate or be nominated for any of the posts. All nomination forms are to be returned to the Administrator at on or before 18 October 2022.

Bitesize Sessions
Our next Bitesize Session will be on 3rd November 2022 at 11 am. We will be welcoming back Liz Sandwith, Chief Professional Practices Advisor, Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors. to speak on Risk in Focus, Please register on the CHEIA website if you wish to join this online event. The links will be circulated to all those who register.
Looking further ahead, Peter Sheppard, Director, Digital Assurance at TIAA, has also agreed to deliver a session on Data Analytics on Wednesday, 18th January 2023. Peter is proposing to share with us a potentially different perspective on approaching a topic that many, while understanding what DA could do, still find it difficult to apply in practice. Continuing with the theme of different perspectives, this session is on a Wednesday, as we recognise that our usual pattern of holding these events on a Thursday may not work for everyone. Save the date!

Quality Assessment Exercise 2022
The anonymised result from this year’s exercise has been shared for benchmarking with the participants who submitted scores. If you wish to find out more about this exercise, the QA Tool (the Spider) is available on the website. CHEIA promotes this Tool for members to use for quality assessment, either as a self-assessment to meet the internal quality review requirements or for a peer review to meet the external quality review requirements. There will be another opportunity to take part in 2023.

Cyber, IT and Digital Group
The CHEIA sub-Group formerly known as CISA is now known as the Cyber, IT and Digital Group (CITD) to recognise the broader remit of the group. Certified Information Systems Auditors and those who wish to become one, as well as those who are involved with IT audits in-house, or anyone who needs guidance or to share good practice is welcome to join this Group. The next meeting of the Group will be in November 2022. Email the Administrator at if you wish to join or to be invited to the next meeting.

CHEIA Website
Our website is currently getting a lick of paint and some new soft furnishings! The final touches are being applied to the look and feel of the website with the refreshed design expected to be released in early November. Eight out of ten internal auditors who expressed an opinion on some of the early previews agreed that the refresh is crisp, bright and professional, but we will let you be the final judge. Further announcements will be made nearer the time.
