CHEIA August 2021 Update

17 August 2021      Nkechi Ijeomah, CHEIA Administrator

Message from the Chair
As I write this it is only three weeks until the start of our virtual 2021 CHEIA annual conference on 08 September.  Thank you to those colleagues who have already registered to attend – and if you haven’t yet signed up, please take a look at the conference programme on the website to see our fabulous line-up, and sign up!
There is also a little bit of time left to submit your entry for this year’s CHEIA Award for Excellence.  Have a think about your own or your colleagues’ activities and achievements, and send through your entry by 24 August.

CHEIA Conference 2021 – 08 to 10 September
What to expect at the Conference
Special thanks to everyone who has registered to join us for the virtual Conference this year. As you will see from our timetable for the event, now available on the website, we have carefully planned what we expect to be a great gathering for all delegates. For those who have not done so, please make sure you book your place now to join us to make this a truly rewarding event for all.

New Features
As mentioned in previous Updates, we have gone to great lengths to make this virtual conference relevant, useful and a good one for all delegates. You will see from the timetable that each of the three conference days has its own theme. We also have ‘Sandboxes’ and ‘Executive’ boxes for each day, providing more opportunities for delegates to delve deeper into the day’s sessions in a less formal setting.

Bring an Audit Committee member
The conference isn’t just for internal auditors – we’re sure that risk management, governance and other colleagues will find it interesting and useful too!  As will Audit Committee members, especially our ‘Engagement day’ on Thursday.  We even have sandbox dedicated to audit committee members – so please invite members of your audit Committee to attend, and make sure to attend if you yourself are an Audit Committee member somewhere.
Remember that once you book a place for the Conference, other delegates from your institution can attend the event at a reduced rate. It will be a great opportunity for them to join in the discussion.

CHEIA AGM – 4 November 2021
This year’s Annual General Meeting has been scheduled to take place on 4 November 2021. It will be a virtual event and the link will be circulated nearer the time.

CHEIA Elections 2021
It’s our usual practice to invite nominations, conduct elections (if necessary) to the CHEIA Executive and announce the new Executive at the AGM. We will again be inviting nominations to the posts of Chair, Treasurer, Regional Representative for the North and Regional Representative for the South. Further information will be available at the Conference.

CHEIA Award for Excellence 2021 – Call for Entries
The closing date for entries for the CHEIA Award has been extended since many people have been away for their annual holidays. Entries should be submitted to contact@cheia.ac.uk, together with any documentation to support the entry by 24 August 2021.
The award recognises a CHEIA member whose work has enhanced the reputation of internal audit, by delivering an impact to either the executive management team, audit committee or the wider internal audit profession. You can read more about the award and about the winner of last year’s award on our website.

CHEIA Bitesize Events
We are hoping to rearrange the Bitesize Session on Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) and are inviting CHEIA members to lead some sessions in the Autumn. If you are interested, please email Nkechi, the CHEIA administrator on contact@cheia.ac.uk with your suggested topic.

Quality Assurance Exercise
If you have taken part in this year’s quality assurance exercise (either as a self-assessment or peer-review) please look out for the email link by which we will collect your assessment results (anonymously).  Please also use the survey to feedback on your experience of using the ‘spider’ tool and to share details of any practices which are new, innovative or leading edge (which might win you the CHEIA award for excellence!).

UUK Accommodation Code of Practice
You may have seen Barry Frankham’s post on the CHEIA website discussion board about the Accommodation Code.  Barry is the CHEIA representative on the UUK Sector Advisory Group for the Code, and is seeking your feedback about the current guidance available to auditors and whether you would like further training.  Please respond via the discussion thread or contact Barry directly.

Annual Subscription Renewal
Thanks to everyone who has already renewed their subscription for the year. We appreciate your continued support for CHEIA. Please, continue to make use of the website for resources to support you in your work, to post job ads or use the discussion board to share views or seek input from others. If you require any further information, please email Nkechi, our CHEIA Administrator contact@cheia.ac.uk.
Unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye (and remove website access) to anyone who does not renew by 30 September 2021.
