CHEIA, the Council for Higher Education Internal Auditors, is the network group for higher education internal audit providers and anyone interested in governance, risk and assurance.
CHEIA was formed in September 1992 and became a Special Interest Organisation (SIO) of Professional HE Services (PHES) Ltd in August 2019.
We are the voice of higher education internal audit and provide a single point of contact with internal audit providers in the sector, a source of expertise (for example on higher education working groups and bodies) and a sounding board for consultations. We engage with regulators, funders and interested and related bodies to promote the role and status of internal audit and in developing stakeholders’ understanding of what internal audit can do.
Membership of CHEIA is open to all those with an interest in internal audit, assurance, governance and internal control in Higher Education, including Internal Audit Service providers (in-house teams, consortia and external firms), institutional staff who liaise with internal auditors (‘client side’), risk managers and members of university Audit Committees and governing bodies.
