Vincenzo (Enzo) is a global higher education specialist with expertise in transnational education and the use of agents in international student recruitment. He is former International Director (University of Nottingham), Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement (University of Reading). Internationalisation has become an increasingly important feature of HE strategies worldwide. Enzo will explore key features of UK HE internationalisation strategies and, some of the risks associated with them which should be considered in strategy development, implementation and ongoing review.

Paul Kamminga TIAA Ltd. Digital and Cyber Assurance Team

Paul works with TIAA’s client base helping them to develop their approaches to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other digital services. In this session, we focus on AI, which has grabbed the headlines in 2023. We attempt to look beyond the hype to look at the benefits that AI can deliver, as well as some of the potential pitfalls that we must avoid.

Ben O’Connor PwC, Director

Ben has over 13 years experience focused on internal audit, governance, risk and compliance across the Education sector. He is a key part of the PwC national Education Industry team. Ben will be presenting the results of PwC’s annual HE Risk Register Benchmarking exercise. He will go into depth on the key themes arising from the report and discuss how this horizon scanning exercise can be used to inform the delivery of internal audit work across the sector.

David Eardley Azets, Partner

David is a partner based in Azets’ Edinburgh office. He has long-standing experience of the HE sector and public sector internal audit, including reviews in which culture has feature heavily in the scope. David will share his perspective on how culture can be approached within the work of internal audit. There will be an opportunity for a more in-depth discussion in the afternoon breakout discussions.

Simon Farr JISC, Director of Innovation & IT In this session

Simon takes the opportunity to share how JISC supports key elements of the technology infrastructure that the sector relies upon, as well as the innovations offered by JISC to assist institutions in accessing leading edge technologies.

Michael Wong KPMG, Forensic Senior Manager

Michael’s current role covers a broad range of services, from fraud and accounting investigations to contract reviews, regulatory compliance work and proactive fraud risk management reviews. He has brought his experience to clients across the public and private sector, to provide clarity and support during times of distress, and insight with regards to strategic/executive level improvements. Michael is currently a director of the Yorkshire and Humber Fraud Forum, which aims to promote good practice amongst counter-fraud professionals in both the public and private sector. Michael will provide his insights on the importance of fraud risk management at a Governance level, an update on the recent ‘Failure to prevent fraud’ offence, and his experience of HE fraud case studies.
